About This Course
First Year
During first year of this course, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of core principles, concepts, methods and theories relevant to the study of Economics and Finance. The emphasis initially will be on quantitative methods (Maths and Statistics) and Economics to build solid academic foundations on which competencies in Business and Finance will be advanced throughout the course. The Finance stream places emphasis on problems and applications relevant to the financial industry and corporate financial management. If you choose the Economics or Maths & Statistics stream, the emphasis will instead be on different aspects of economic analysis and quantitative methods needed to support (as a consultant or an analyst) and undertake (as a manager or a policy-maker) decision-making in a corporate or policy-making setting. Business Mentoring Programme
In second year, students can participate in a personalised mentorship programme, gaining industry knowledge, advice and support from the College of Business alumni community.
In second year, students have the opportunity to study abroad for a trimester at one of our exchange partner universities in countries such as Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Finland, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Our optional one year paid internship programme, which takes place after second year, places successful students with leading companies nationally and internationally. As someone who loved maths in school and was interested in the world of business and economics, I found myself drawn to what Economics & Finance had to offer. The course begins by building a solid foundation in economic principles and analytical methods and then switches to the application of these foundations across business and finance. I was lucky enough to have spent a semester studying abroad and completed a year-long internship with Grant Thornton Ireland. Graduates have a well-rounded view of a rapidly changing finance industry and their career outcomes in the sector are unrivalled.

I chose the BSc Economics and Finance programme because of the wide array of potential employment opportunities. The course structure is laid out very well. In first and second year, an emphasis is put on understanding the mathematical and statistical concepts. There is a shift to applied learning in final year where the concepts taught initially are implemented further to finance and economics problems.
One of the highlights for me was the Quinn internship. I spent a year with IBI Corporate Finance in Dublin and was able to apply the knowledge I had learned during my studies while also learning new skills. I would thoroughly recommend this programme to any prospective students with a keen interest in maths and its application to the finance industry.
