Records Management

ProfCert (NFQ Level 8)

This course is available through the following application route(s)

The Certificate in Records Management programme is aimed at individuals employed in record keeping roles in the public or private sector who wish to acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to contribute to the successful management of records in all formats in their employing institutions.

The programme is based on the conception of the record keeper as serving both individual organisations and wider society, adhering to international best practice, sensitive to the balancing of access and privacy considerations and dynamic in relation to technological change. This programme has a practical focus with the assessment supporting students to apply their learning in order to identify issues in their own workplace and develop specific solutions and responses to those. Many of the classes are shared with students taking the MA in Archives and Records Management, enabling Certificate students to participate in the wider Archivistics community in the School of History.

The programme’s learning environment comprises lectures, seminars, field trips and practitioner visits culminating in the completion of a portfolio of practical work based on the application of knowledge and skills acquired during the programme to issues specifically within each student’s employing organisation.

Teaching, learning and assessment is based on enabling students to complete assignments, reflect on recordkeeping practices in their own organisation and relate those specific record keeping contexts to wider international frameworks and best practice.
