This course will tie in with events in the Dublin Libraries : One Dublin, One Book festival 2025. It will focus on reading the festival selected book title, to be announced in Spring 2025. We will also read a variety of books and other material which may relate thematically to the 2025 choice, or through their connection with Dublin.Completing this course provides you with an in depth understanding of Dublin from some of the writers who have lived here and made this city their subject. No prior knowledge or skills are required for this course beyond an enjoyment and an interest in reading and in finding out more about your city. The 2025 One Dublin One Book festival choice will be available from Dublin libraries

One Dublin One Book Choice 2025 (announced Spring 2025)- available from Dublin City libraries and additional materials
At the end of the course students should be able to:
• Be aware of the richness and diversity of Dublin’s literary heritage
• Have an understanding of how a book may relate to the place iterature in which it is produced or performed
• Be aware of how a given text relates to a literary tradition
• Confidently talk about their response to any given text they might read and to deploy the correct terminology
• Have an increased understanding of the sorts of conversations and insights it is possible to have about literature through literary analysis
• Be able to identify and comment on genre, form and literary conventions in the works studied
• Discussion.

• Field trip / Attendance at events associated with the One City One Book festival.
Garrett Fagan has taught at universities in Dublin and at Warwick University in the UK. He has interests in Renaissance literature, legal - literary relations and Anglo Irish writing.
