Title: MacCarthy Memorial Scholarship
Award Type: Scholarship
Programme Description:
Long Description: A sum was bequeathed by the late Charles J. MacCarthy for the provision of a scholarship in connection with architectural studies in the University in memory of his father, James Joseph MacCarthy, Professor of Architecture in the Catholic University. This scholarship may be awarded annually. The purpose is to enable a student to undertake a programme of study in
the Summer vacation of either third or fourth year. The annual value of the scholarship is approximately €953.
Students who desire to be considered for an award must signify their intention of competing and submit a programme of study to the Chair of the Architecture Programme Board not later than 1 June of the year in which they sit for the Third University Examination in Architecture. Those applicants who qualify by a very good performance at the Third University Examination will then be interviewed by a board consisting of intern and extern examiners. The award will be made on the result of this interview.
A payment of €635 will be made to the winner of the scholarship as soon as the award is taken up (i.e. June/July of third or fourth year). The student will be required to submit a satisfactory report, with drawings, covering work as holder of the scholarship to the Chair of the Architecture Programme Board. The balance will be paid on receipt of this report. If the winner of the scholarship postpones the holding of it to the fourth year, the award will be subject to satisfactory attendance and performance in that year.
