| Tiernan Byrne was a student in UCD in the School of Civil Engineering. He completed his civil engineering degree and commenced his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Ken Gavin. Tiernan suffered from a brain tumor during his secondary school years and through his time in UCD. Tiernan was an amazing young man who, despite his ongoing serious illness, got on with his studies in a quiet and dedicated way. Unfortunately Tiernan’s condition deteriorated significantly in 2014, during the final year of his PhD studies, and he sadly passed away. Tiernan had a very positive attitude to life and his ability to cope with his illness was inspiring. The School wish to create an award in his memory. |
