Long Description: Colman Saunders graduated in medicine from University College Dublin in the 1925. Dismayed by the overall level of care provided to Irish children he studied paediatrics in Vienna before returning to Ireland to develop the subspecialty of paediatrics. He is particularly remembered for establishing clinical care in cystic fibrosis for Irish children and for his role in launching a new dedicated Children's Hospital in Crumlin. He was appointed the first professor of paediatrics in University College Dublin in 1960.
The Colman Saunders medal in Paediatrics is awarded every year in his memory.
