Long Description: Niall O’Higgins was Professor of Surgery for almost 30 years. He was widely recognised for his work in developing cancer care in Ireland, particularly breast cancer services, and for promoting surgical oncology throughout the European Union and beyond. He initiated liver transplantation in Ireland and was elected President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He was committed to achieving the highest standards of surgical education for medical students and graduates and for encouraging scholarship and research in surgical training and practice.
The award is open to Medicine and Graduate Entry to Medicine Students in UCD. It is awarded to the student with the highest scoring GPA in the Surgery module.
