Long Description: This medal is being presented as a tribute to the late Professor Curran who passed away in 2016. The Aongus J Curran Medal in Otolaryngology is a UCD academic prize awarded to the student who completes the best essay on a specified topic. The essay is a one hour elective competition, students are asked to write an essay on a specified topic and the prize is awarded to the student who demonstrates a full knowledge and comprehensive understanding of that topic. The programme in Otolaryngology runs alongside the programme for Ophthalmology and this prize mirrors the Kirwan medal in Ophthalmology. This medal is replacing the William Wilde Medal in Otolaryngology which was introduced by Professor Curran in 2010. This award is open to Medicine and Graduate Entry to Medicine students.
