Title: Agricultural Consultants Association PWE Excellence Award
Award Type: Award
Programme Description:
Long Description: Professional work experience (PWE) is an integral part of the Agriculture degree and takes place in third year. PWE provides an opportunity to network and to experience many different roles and secure a job prior to graduation. Active engagement with industry and the farming sector are key components of the agricultural degree programmes offered at UCD.
The School of Agriculture and Food Science have established prizes with the support of Industry for a number of years which recognize the efforts of our students in their acquisition of professional work experience in support of their undergraduate education. Sponsorship of one of these awards by the Agricultural Consultants Association will support the training and education of the future generation of agricultural consultants. The Agricultural Consultants Association is the largest professional advisory system in the country providing a full range of technical and agri-business services to 55,000 farmers nationally. Additionally, the relationship with UCD will increase awareness of the Agricultural Consultants Association amongst a community of almost 2000 students.
The School strongly supports the PWE programme which is embedded in the academic curriculum as a core module in 11 programmes in Stage 3 in the BAgrSc and BSc degree programmes. The awards recognise Excellence in PWE through a competitive process which identifies the best students from each programme each year. School Awards are presented at the Annual prize-giving. Sponsored monetary awards for Excellence in PWE, supporting the non-monetary School Awards, have been provided since 2011.
