The Joseph Fitzgerald Award for contribution, will be awarded to the student who is highest ranked after a process that will involve combined GPA Score over all the modules with Surgery codes, a 3000 word review article on an advance in Surgery for the UCD student journal and a personal statement on contribution to class activities and class mates during the years where Surgery were taught.
FOLLOWING ADVERTISING THAT THIS MEDAL IS AVAILABLE FOR APPLICATION STUDENTS WOULD BE ASKED TO
• Submit their GPA for modules with a SURGERY code, 3000 word review article on advances in Surgery, a curriculum vitae and a person statement outlining their contribution to the class and class mates to Professor Carel le Roux carel.leroux@ucd.ie 10th April 2016.

• The GPAs will contribute 20%, Assessment of the review article 30%, the personal statement 30% and the final interview 20% where the students will have to explain what contribution to the betterment of the class- helping a struggling student or an equal contribution they have made.

• The 5 top candidates will meet with Dr John Fitzgerald (consultant surgeon and Assistant Professor, Department of Urology, Stony Brook School of Medicine, USA), Prof Kenneth R. Shroyer (Chair of Pathology, Stony Brook School of Medicine, USA) and Prof Carel le Roux, Chair of Experimental Pathology, UCD) or their nominees.

• The award equivalent of US $1000 will be bestowed on the winner by Dr John Fitzgerald the son of Dr Joseph Fitzgerald. He is also the President of the American branch of the UCD alumni association.
