Programme Description:
Long Description: UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science and Agricultural Trust Professional Work Experience Excellence Award
The UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science has provided a Professional Work Experience (PWE) programme for over 60 years. The School recognises the importance of PWE in the education and training of its undergraduate students who take that module for academic credit, working in a multitude of environments across the agriculture, food, nutrition and environmental sectors in Ireland and abroad.

Up to 15 awards will be made on the basis of excellence in the PWE module within each participating degree programme in the School of Agriculture and Food Science. All successful candidates will receive a School PWE Excellence Certificate and one top performing student will also receive a cheque in the amount of €1,500 as part of the following scholarship programme:

The Agricultural Trust PWE Excellence Award: Established by the then farmer owner of the Farmers’ Journal, Mr John Mooney, in the 1960’s, who built the paper into a profitable publication with the help of the late Mr Paddy O’Keeffe as Editor. Mr Mooney’s magnanimous gesture in placing the Farmers’ Journal into a Trust was based on an ethos which centred on the objective of promoting research and education in Irish Agriculture. Over the years, many research projects and scholarships have been funded by the Agricultural Trust. This award will consist of one monetary prize to the value of €1,500.

Stage 3 BAgrSc, BSc Food Science and BSc Human Nutrition students undertaking the Professional Work Experience module will be automatically eligible for consideration for the UCD PWE Excellence Awards. Up to 15 students from across the participating degree programmes will be recommended on academic merit for a School PWE Excellence Certificate. Of this cohort, four candidates will be recommended for a monetary prize associated with The Colm O’Loghlen PWE Excellence Awards and one candidate for a monetary prize associated with the Agricultural Trust PWE Excellence Award. These monetary prizes will be determined by a board of assessors (internal and external) following submission by Certificate winners of a summary document outlining their PWE experience, plus an interview.
