This module aims to provide advanced insights into the theory, practices, processes, and current thinking in Sustainable Procurement. Procurement cannot exist in the current times, with climate chaos, environmental destruction and unimaginable inequality, without embedding Sustainability into all decisions and actions. Therefore, this module will introduce you to the key concepts in Procurement while providing guidance and advice on embedding Sustainability in all Procurement activities.

This is a skills-based module, where, like Procurement Managers, you will co-create learning by discussing key issues in Sustainable Procurement; working with other members of the class to demonstrate leadership and management skills; providing feedback to other's; advising companies on the latest developments in Sustainable Procurement issues; presenting and communicating complex ideas to multiple stakeholders in a variety of ways; and demonstrating your foundational knowledge of Sustainable Procurement. Throughout the trimester, we will explore the latest issues in Sustainable Procurement.

You will learn all about Sustainable Procurement starting from the basics of Procurement and delving much deeper into the Sustainable Procurement knowledge you will need for a successful career in Procurement. We will explore the latest issues in Sustainable Procurement including Strategy, Strategic Sourcing, Outsourcing, Relationship Management, International Developments, Ethical Issues in Procurement and Supplier Management, Information and Disclosure in Procurement and Sustainable Procurement.

What will I learn?

Learning Outcomes:

On completing the module students will be expected to: • display creative-thinking skills including critical analysis of theory and integrating differing streams of knowledge; • discuss and provide solutions for Sustainable Procurement; • acquire an in-depth knowledge of the Sustainable Procurement field; • have a strategic focus and the ability to apply concepts operationally; • work in teams as well as communicate effectively to multiple audiences.

Indicative Module Content:

The module content will be finalised after discussions with the class in Week 1 but could include key ideas relating to Sustainable Procurement. Some examples of content are Basics of Procurement, Procurement Function, Strategy, Sourcing, Outsourcing, Relationship Management, International Issues, Risk, Information, Disclosure, Sustainability, Purposeful Procurement, Future of Procurement.
