FIN40180 Equity Asset Valuation

Academic Year 2021/2022

This course prepares students for a career in the financial services industry and discussed a comprehensive range of valuation methodologies and examples.

Through case studies and practical application, students will gain exposure to a range of valuaiton methodologies including Discounted Cashflow, Asset Based Analysis and Relative Valuation.

Students will learn how to maximise shareholder value and understand key valuation drivers.

The course will also draw on recent market examples to analyse market efficiency, under and overreaction and risk and return implications.

Sundry issues in valuation including coverage of: Asset investments and divestments; capital structure changes; changes in dividend policy and special cases in valuation (cyclical firms, firms with product options etc) will also be covered.

Learning Outcomes:

On the completing this module students will have achieved the following

- an exposure to a broad range of valuation techniques and their applicability based on their underlying assumptions and associated caveats

- A practical understanding of how to go about the valuation process and how to leverage market tools to assist in the process

- an ability to summarise and critique an academic article on valuation-related issues.
