Creativity and innovation are essential for the development of successful new ventures and critical to the survival of existing organizations, especially in competitive environments. This module introduces participants to the use of creativity and design thinking in the venture creation process, helping them develop innovative businesses. The material covered is research- and theory-based, but the module is practice-oriented, with much of the term spent developing participant-generated venture ideas that can be launched in the marketplace.
Students will work in teams to develop their business ideas by analyzing their business models, market, and finances. They will also present their team projects in front of the class. Although the focus is on launching new commercial ventures, the module is also relevant to starting social enterprises and developing new business lines within existing companies (intrapreneurship).

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Apply creativity and design thinking concepts to the identification and development of new innovative business ideas
• Deal with uncertainty, risk and failure – and grow from the experience
• Work in teams to develop ideas into viable business concepts, test them by analyzing the market and finances of new innovative business ventures, and present them in front of the class.
• Synthesise main theories, principles and concepts from entrepreneurship literature with your own experiences and insights and observations of entrepreneurship in your environment
