The objective of this module is to examine the critical interaction of corporate finance and product market behaviour and to apply financial and economic decision making tool to investment and strategic decision making. Therefore, this module adopts an interdisciplinary perspective concentrating on the integration of corporate finance theory, industrial organization economics and strategic management. In particular, the module will develop and adopt a ‘real options’ perspective of financial and strategic decision making. This module examines the area of corporate governance in order to facilitate better control of strategic and financial decisions. Through the application of financing frameworks, we can better understand the strategic roe of financing in contributing to value creation both in the product market and in ensuring more effective governance.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this module, students will be able to:
Appreciate the theoretical perspectives that are involved in financial decision making.
Apply real options theory to the assessment of investment decisions.
Apply game theory to strategic decision making.
Discriminate between different types of financing appropriate in order to ensure improved corporate governance.
Apply the theoretical and conceptual material to practical financing and strategic issues faced by corporations in their industry and competitive environment.
