BMGT45550 Strategy Development Systems

Academic Year 2023/2024

The purpose of the module is to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the design challenges faced by managers in developing and crafting a strategy. Extensive reading and case analyses will be required in class. The topics covered include developing Mission and Vision statements, external analysis, internal analysis, strategic decision making, strategic choice, choice parameters and execution and action planning. other topics will include scenario analysis, conflict in decision making and group interventions.

Learning Outcomes:

The learning outcome is the ability to design alternative approaches to the development of strategy.

Indicative Module Content:

Mission, Vision and Objective setting. Financial projections. External and internal analysis. Scenario planning, Strategic choice. Conflict and consensus in strategic decision making. Process design. Linkages to other administrative systems (human resource, capital budgeting). Horizon time decisions.
