About This Course

Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.

1.Applicants should be obstetric and gynaecological trainees at Senior House Officer, Registrar or SPR level, consultants specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology, with approval to practice in Ireland; midwives registered with An Bord Altranais or the UKCC, who provide antenatal care; or Radiographers with the approval to practice Radiography in Ireland or Northern Ireland, who currently practice ultrasound.
2. Applicants must undertake a clinical placement, under the guidance of a named clinical supervisor, and provide evidence of an agreement to spend a minimum of 80 hours practicing clinical obstetric ultrasound while undertaking this programme.
3. Prior Learning – applicants must complete Prof Cert Early Pregnancy X734 (offered by the Radiography & DI Section) to be eligible to apply for Prof Cert Fetal Biometry, Liquor and Placenta

You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), as UCD recognises formal, informal, and/or experiential learning. RPL may be awarded to gain Admission and/or credit exemptions on a programme. Please visit the UCD Registry RPL web page for further information. Any exceptions are also listed on this webpage.

Successful applicants will be required to attend compulsory Introductory Study Days:




  • Friday 25th July 2025 at The National Maternity Hospital



Engagement with all online lectures and other online material, e.g. online quiz/assessment is also compulsory.
