This Professional Diploma in Researcher Development (Teagasc) has been designed specifically for Postdoctoral Fellows employed by Teagasc. The vision is that the programme will support them in developing the advanced knowledge and skills to drive their lifelong learning, career options and progression in their chosen field.

The programme has been designed to give postdoctoral researchers employed by Teagasc all the convenience that remote learning brings with flexibility in learning while also connecting them to all that UCD has to offer. The wide range of module content designed and delivered by leaders in the area of postdoctoral professional development, ensure that this unique, tailor-made programme empower the learner to reach their professional goals.

  • Master the statistic knowledge for experimental design, statistical theory and training in specific statistical packages.
  • Have developed the fundamental knowledge necessary to identify important gaps in their development and identify ways in which these can be filled.
  • Be able to place their research in a commercial arena to create impact, considering research integrity, data management, innovation and IP.
  • Be highly effective in scientific drafting, editing and proof reading for publication of peer-reviewed articles while also be proficient in writing for popular and online audiences, including press releases as well as being competent to write grant applications.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal and other communication skills that enable them to communicate and interact effectively with colleagues at all levels as well as stakeholders of their research, including funders/investors, industry partners and the media.
  • Develop supervision and mentoring skills, network with confidence, have the leadership skills needed to deal with difficult conversation and to resolve conflict and also develop and maintain skills to self-motivate.
  • Create a Professional Development Plan to successfully plan the next step in their career.
