About This Course

  • Students should be able to communicate in interdisciplinary, academic language about the cultural and political dimensions of media responses to international conflicts, with special emphasis on contemporary events.
  • apply knowledge in a variety of professional settings or in the form of further study.
  • demonstrate an ability to communicate in writing and in public speaking with a variety of specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • develop a sophisticated understanding of the ways in which media interact with war, conflict and security in international contexts.
  • display an understanding of interdisciplinary modes of study.
  • learn skills that will enable them independently to accumulate further knowledge in this or other subjects.

Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.

An upper second class honours degree (NFQ Level 8), or the international equivalent in the subject area such as the Humanities, Politics, International Relations, Journalism or Media Studies but this is not an exhaustive list. Consideration will be given to students with a lower GPA but they will require an interview (via SKYPE or in person) and maybe asked for additional material
Applicants whose first language is not English must normally demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS overall score of 6.5 (with no less than 6 in each element), or equivalent.

You may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), as UCD recognises formal, informal, and/or experiential learning.
