About This Course

  • Graduates will be able to communicate scientific results and implications for practice in written and oral formats.
  • Graduates will be able to design and execute a research study to address an occupational medical issue.
  • Graduates will be able to identify and apply appropriate statistical analysis to analyse an occupational medical problem, using an appropriate statistical package.
  • Graduates will understand the importance of critical appraisal and demonstrate critical appraisal skills.

Incoming Stage 1 undergraduates can usually select an Elective in the Spring Trimester. Most continuing undergraduate students can select up to two Elective modules (10 Credits) per stage. There is also the possibility to take up to 10 extra Elective credits.

  1. Physicians who hold the Licentiate or Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland and have completed the UCD Higher Diploma in Occupational Health, will be eligible to undertake a 30-credit Thesis module to complete their MSc
  2. Those doctors who hold the LFOM or MFOM but did not undertake the Higher Diploma in Occupational Health in UCD will undertake 50 credits. This will comprise
    • 30 credit Thesis Module
    • 10 credi Research Methods Module
    • 10 credit essay on an aspect of clinical practice of Occupational Medicine.

Physicians who have already been awarded with the Licentiate or Membership of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, can now apply for the MSc in Occupational Medicine as an upgrade option, with approval for prior learning.
