Learning Outcomes:
On completing the module, students should:
1. display comprehensive knowledge of the biology of selected animals and protists of medical significance;
2. understand the significance of the evolutionary process in shaping modern humans;
3. understand how molecular genetics informs modern medicine.
Indicative Module Content:
The module covers: Ecology for medical students; Protists of medical importance; Invertebrates of medical importance; Humans in a zoologists’ world; Vertebrate development and human disease; Animal genetics and medicine. All of these topics will be covered in lectures. Selected protists and invertebrates of medical importance will be also examined in laboratory practicals.
