This zoology module forms part of the core curriculum for first year medical students. It introduces students to a diverse array of animals and protists of particular relevance to medical practice, explores concepts of human physiology from an evolutionary point of view, and highlights the usefulness and application of molecular genetics to modern medicine.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completing the module, students should:
1. display comprehensive knowledge of the biology of selected animals and protists of medical significance;
2. understand the significance of the evolutionary process in shaping modern humans;
3. understand how molecular genetics informs modern medicine.
