On completion of this module, the student should be able to:
-Demonstrate the principles of aseptic techniques;
-Identify surgical instruments & comment on their correct handling and maintenance;
-Determine the importance of developing checklists to maintain and improve surgical standards;
-Identify and demonstrate principles of circulating and scrubbed nursing roles during surgical procedures;
-Identify and summarize appropriate wound care for small and equine surgical patients;
-Demonstrate appropriate wound care for small animal and equine patients;
-Identify common small animal dental conditions and apply the principles of periodontal therapy;
- Identify and summarize the pre, peri and post nursing care considerations of common surgical procedures for small animal, equine and exotics patients in veterinary practice.
