Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of different diagnostic imaging modalities used in veterinary practice including radiography, ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.
2. Recognise and address the health and safety issues pertaining to veterinary radiography.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the correct handling of a range of equipment relevant to veterinary radiography.
4. Demonstrate knowledge of the correct technique for radiography of a wide variety of views in both small and large animal species including correct positioning, centring point and collimation.
5. Understand different methods of processing radiographic images.
6.. Perform an image appraisal on a radiographic study.
7. Identify processing problems that affect radiographic image quality.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:

The teaching and learning approach to the module is comprised of three stands:
1. Lectures; to give the students underpinning knowledge regarding radiography, radiation safety, generation and appraisal of radiographic images and understanding of different imaging modalities and their uses.
2. Tutorial classes; designed to complement the lectures and actively engage students in understanding and applying their knowledge.
3. Practical classes: a series of task-based learning opportunities, aligned to the radiography tasks they will be expected to perform as day one competency skills for veterinary nurses.

The lectures are for the class while the tutorials and practical classes are designed to be more interactive for small group learning.

Learning Exclusions:

Student cannot be awarded credit for this module if they have already achieved similar educational outcomes in higher, further or secondary education.
