This module will introduce students to the professional knowledge and skills needed to transition into the veterinary nursing profession. Knowledge and skills will be developed in the following areas; written and verbal communication, teamwork, reflection, Veterinary Nursing code of conduct, and critical thinking. The content will be delivered and assessed using a mixture of teaching, learning, and assessment approaches including; lectures, in-class discussions, practical application of communication skills (via phone or online platform), writing assignments, and online reading assignments.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

- Identify methods of appropriate communication methods in veterinary practice. Including the Calgary Cambridge model, verbal and non-verbal communication, handling difficult situations.
- Identify the purpose and value of reflection within the veterinary environment and various reflection models.
- Identify methods for creating an evidence base in nursing care. Including research methods, PICO.
-Identify models that underpin the nursing process.
- Identify the role, scope and responsibilities of the veterinary nurse as a professional within the veterinary environment.
- Develop and apply procedural knowledge and competency of communications skills, a reflection model, and evidence based nursing care through assessment strategies (mock phone call, reflection assignment and research assignment).

How will my Feedback be Delivered?

Feedback on online quizzes will be automated. Group and class feedback will be given in communications tutorials and practical sessions. Self-assessment activities will be completed verbally in communications practicals and through reflection assignments.
