The aim of this module is to develop thoughtful practitioners who can systematically examine and enhance their teaching practice. Through reflective enquiry, peer collaboration, and evidence-informed analysis, participants will develop the capacity to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences. This module positions reflective practice as the foundation for ongoing professional development, enabling educators to continue to develop as responsive practitioners who effectively support diverse learners. Participants will engage in cycles of reflection-on-action and reflection-in-action, developing greater awareness of their teaching decisions and their impact on student learning. At its core, this module integrates reflective methodologies with practical skills in teaching, assessment, session planning, and evaluation. The opportunity to complete a national digital badge in Universal Design for Learning is embedded into this module.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

Having successfully completed this module, you will have demonstrated the ability to:

1. Apply systematic reflective frameworks to critically examine and evaluate your own teaching practice, identifying strengths, challenges, and areas for growth through evidence-based analysis.
2. Demonstrate reflective understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles by analysing how these practices enhance inclusive education and documenting their integration into your teaching approach.
3. Engage in supportive collaborative reflective dialogue through peer-to-peer teaching conversations, using structured reflection protocols to identify and analyse evidence of learning in both your own and others' teaching practice.
4. Design and justify meaningful learning experiences by exploring and articulating the alignment between learning outcomes, teaching strategies, universal design for learning principles and assessment methods, using reflection to enhance these connections.

Indicative Module Content:

Participants will engage with learning materials weekly in Brightspace which serve as a touchstone and guide for the synchronous online sessions

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Brightspace will serve as a the primary mode of delivery to support independent inquiry, specified learning activities and autonomous student learning. There are 5 online sessions which will include active learning experiences, peer discussion, lectures, reflective learning and independent inquiry.

Discussions on Generative AI (GenAI) will be incorporated into the UTL40180 module due to its significant relevance to teaching and learning. Please note that the use of these tools is optional and students will not be required to use GenAI tools. The module will provide specific guidelines on:

- When and how GenAI can be used in assessment
- Appropriate ways to acknowledge its use
- Which UCD-supported GenAI tools are available
