On completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Understand the dynamics of child abuse and the appropriate assessment frameworks
2. Understand the importance of psychological and sociological ways of understanding harm against children
3. Understand the dynamics of domestic violence and the impact on victims
4. Understand the dynamics of sexual violence, the impact on victims and justice and therapeutic responses to them
5. Adopt a critical approach to understanding prostitution
6. Adopt a social justice and human rights framework to critically appraise the key themes of the module
This module addresses contemporary thought on non-accidental injury to children, child sexual abuse, sexual violence, domestic violence and prostitution in Ireland and includes an overview of the social and justice responses to these problems. Drawing on social justice and human rights frameworks to critically appraise the key themes, the module aims to equip students with a working knowledge of the issues involved and some of the practice responses to the issues.
