SOC30480 Broadcasting Sociology

Academic Year 2020/2021

Through an experiential learning framework, students will sociologically engage with societally relevant topics and become familiar with tools for interviewing, recording, script writing, editing and communicating sociology to others. Students will be split up in small teams and produce high-quality podcasts/videos/animations on sociological issues. Students will conduct relevant background research, take on different roles in their teams (e.g. producer, speaker, interviewer, researcher, editor), come up with a plan for their podcast/video/animation, pitch their plans to staff members, present their research and plan to each other and ultimately produce a podcast/video/animation. Emphasis is on students engaging with societally relevant topics from a sociological perspective and creatively producing a non-traditional team project, which is interesting for the broader public.
