SOC10070 Sociological Analysis and Research Design

The aim of this module is to introduce students to sociological research methods. It constitutes the foundation for further study of empirical research in Sociology and other disciplines. The course gives an overview of different quantitative and qualitative research methods including experiments, surveys, secondary analysis or ethnographies. The course also introduces students to scientific thinking and how sociological explanations can be made and substantiated with empirical research by drawing on real world research examples. In the tutorials students practice scientific thinking and learn the basics of research methods.
