SMGT40420 Mgmt of High Performance Sport

Academic Year 2022/2023

High performance sport is an industry generating billions of dollars worldwide and which provides career opportunities for a vast range of professions. The aim of this module is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the management of high performance sport policies, programmes, athletes and teams. High performance sport requires the effective alignment of a number of elements, from financial strategy and the development of appropriate infrastructure to coaching and sport sciences support. Consequently, this module takes a multi-perspective view of the high performance sport environment from government policy to the views of key stakeholders within a sport organisation, such as the CEO, the high performance director, the coach, support staff and athlete. Throughout the module, both theoretical concepts as well as practical implications will be explored across a range of high performance sport environments. After undertaking this module, students should have developed their understanding and acquired skills necessary to critically analyse the issues arising in the delivery of high performance sport.
