Organisations can only function if they are able to assemble together people with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and experience to meet objectives. They must also retain effective performers and deal with exit from the organisation, both voluntary and otherwise whilst remaining within the legal framework. This involves actively seeking to manage the performance and contribution of organisational members. As the skills that employers seek become more specialised, employment markets have tightened, leading to increased complexity. This is reflected in an increased number of considerations such as diversity management, employer branding, work–life balance initiatives and innovative approaches to job design. This module considers a variety of activities, aimed at managing the human resource in sporting organisations. It covers the practical aspects of resourcing, talent management, retention, performance management, workplace learning, the legal context of employment, employee relations, diversity management and corporate social responsibility.
