This module is designed to provide students a bridge between academia and practice, and gain experience in the sport management industry. The work placement is to occur over a minimum period of 6 weeks, during which students are expected to conform to the normal working hours of the host company, and complete a minimum of 200 hours of work.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students will

(i) improve their awareness of the broader environment of sport;
(ii) develop new employment-related skills, and gain an understanding of how a sports organisation/business is managed;
(iii) work independently and as part of a team within the parameters of the agreed work plan and time-scale;
(iv) understand the link between academic development and workplace requirements; and
(v) make a reasoned self-assessment of personal and academic capabilities.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Lecture and activity-based learning.

The work placement takes place in the Spring and/or Summer trimesters over a minimum period of six weeks. During placements, students are expected to work within the agreed working hours of the host company, and complete a minimum of 200 hours of work. More information on the module and assessments is provided in the Sports Work Placement Student Handbook.
