This module introduces students to a wide range of academic skills that are required to successfully study at university, including extracting meaning from lectures, taking notes, tackling readings, working with and managing quantitative data, conducting research, referencing, critical thinking, and academic writing.

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module, students should be able to:

(i) understand the nature of university education and students' role in independent learning;
(ii) apply various methods of note-taking to lectures, seminars, and research sources;
(iii) search effectively for resources and information in the University Library;
(iv) critically review sources of information and knowledge;
(v) reference sources appropriately using the Harvard system;
(vi) understand, organise, summarise, and visualise quantitative data; and
(vii) present research findings using an appropriate writing style and assignment format.
