This module is an introduction to the science and research in coaching and coaching practice. Fundamental topics will be covered such as the coaching process and how to structure a coaching session. The aim of the module is to provide students with an awareness of the current coaching literature and how this can inform coaching practice.

On completion of this module students should be able to:

-Plan a coaching session
-Have an understanding of the coaching process
-Articulate their own coaching philosophy
-Awareness of coaching styles
-Review current coaching literature
-Understand how to facilitate athlete centred coaching

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
This module will be delivered through a variety of formats for optimal student engagement. Students are required to actively engage within their learning, this will be in the format of class contributions, peer learning, practical sessions and group discussions.

Lectures will be delivered through a mixture of live lectures and practical sessions. Students are expected to engage and participate in practical scenarios in practical classes.

An interest in sport and some experience with coaching, either as an athlete or as a coach.
