SMGT10070 Sports Management

Academic Year 2024/2025

This module will provide students with an introduction to all aspects of sports management. The aim of this module is to enable students to develop skills in and knowledge about management and organisational behaviour through a sports lens. Each unit of the module will examine key management principles (e.g., leadership, inclusion, marketing, sponsorship, event and facility operations) followed by case study analysis. All course materials including summary lecture notes will be available on Brightspace.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:

(i) Develop knowledge of the key concepts and principles of management and organisational behaviour;
(ii) Understand how management and organisational behaviour principles are applied successfully in the sports industry;
(iii) Develop awareness of sports management from the perspective of key stakeholders in the sports industry;
(iv) Critically apply management analysis tools to sports organisations.
