Students will be able to synthesise, analyse and use the disciplinary knowledge, acquired in academic modules, in a creative way. Students will be capable of working alone and in groups.
Students will have learned how to plan, manage and produce a project.
Students will have increased their communication skills level.
Students will have learned to work independently and as a part of a team.
Students will have become more efficient independent learners.
The framework of the module will enable students to take greater ownership of their learning
• Though development of independent learning.
• By increased application of new and old skills to a higher level of complexity.
• By becoming effective team workers.
• By becoming critical and creative thinkers and becoming effective enquirers and participators
This module introduces students to the principles of scientific enquiry through lectures and group work.
In the first trimester, students will be trained and equipped with study skills which are needed to develop their group project as well as to prepare them for the other modules of the program.
In the second trimester, the teaching approach will change (flipped classroom) where students will be working in small groups, and in conjunction with the module co-ordinator they will identify a scientific problem. They will research the literature and produce a review.
The main focus throughout the module will be to enable students to become independent learners, to learn as a team and to judge the quality of their learning through the use of peer–assessment and self-assessment. Using a project based approach; students will learn communication and presentation skills, methods of sourcing scientific information, scientific writing and analysis.
