Academic Year 2023/2024

The first module addresses the participants’ individual roles in the strategy process and introduces participants to some of the main analytical tools used in strategy. It provides an action plan for participants to enhance their contribution in these areas. This session will provide an overview of the entire programme and will provide participants with a framework to enhance their immediate contribution to strategy, innovation and change in their organisations. Moreover, each participant will develop and present their own agenda to bring the lessons learned on the programme back to their own organisations.

The learning outcomes from this module include:• Enhanced self-awareness and critical assessment of key strengths and development needs as strategic leaders;• Enhanced insight into the role of Mission, Vision and Values in strategy development;• The ability to to assess the design of strategy development processes;• Practice in the application of a variety of strategy tools;• Insight into building organisational resilience through creation of a shared vision and a unified understanding of strategy;• Deeper knowledge into creating and developing a strategy with enhanced strategic thinking skills and a disciplined process for strategy creation.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
The module has a detailed study guide. Students are required to complete the module pre-reading or pre-work prior to attending the seminar sessions. The sessions themselves will be a combination of lectures, group discussion, in-class presentations, case study discussions and classroom exercises. A heavy emphasis in the seminars is on teasing out the implications of theory for practical application in a workplace context.
