Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this module the student should be able to:
- Describe how to adapt radiographic technique to undertake X-ray examinations of patients with complex presentations (e.g. non-ambulant trauma patients) using correct terminology.
- Describe radiographic technique used to undertake specialised X-ray examinations and dental X-ray examinations using correct terminology.
- Recognise and evaluate the relative advantages and limitations of various radiographic projections in the visualisation of suspected pathology.
- Explain technical, patient and pathological factors influencing preparation and choice of technique for specialised X-ray examinations, dental X-ray examinations and modified/adapted radiographic technique examinations.
- Critically appraise the radiographic images obtained through adapted and supplementary radiograph techniques (including dental X-ray examinations) and determine the diagnostic acceptability of these images.
- Identify common pathologies and abnormalities that may be observed in the aforementioned X-ray examinations.
Indicative Module Content:
Justification of radiographic examinations
Optimisation of radiographic practice for adaptive technique X-ray examinations and specialised/supplementary X-ray examinations.
Radiation protection and patient care considerations
Critical evaluation of radiographic images
