Learning Outcomes:
Throughout this module, you will develop knowledge, professional skills and personal attributes relevant to your future radiographic practice and at the end of this module you should be able to:
1. Explain the fundamental principles underpinning CT scanner technology, data acquisition and image reconstruction;
2. Explain the fundamental principles underpinning CT image display and post-processing of CT images;
3. Justify the CT protocols or approach for given clinical scenarios, based on clinical guidelines/evidence;
4. Evaluate radiographers professional role in patient preparation, patient care, patient safety (radiation safety, benefit/risk, infection control) and obtaining verbal/written consent for CT examinations;
5. Discuss the methods and application of contrast agents to CT patients;
7. Apply theoretical knowledge of CT protocols/scan and reconstruction parameters to investigate various clinical indications;
8. Discuss how the various components of CT protocols influence radiation dose, image quality or imaging outcomes;
9. Demonstrate an ability to identify and describe basic anatomy and pathology on CT images identified in the module.
Indicative Module Content:
The syllabus will encourage you to consider technological and clinical practice issues to include: Components of a CT scanner, CT scan and reconstruction parameters, digital image display, image quality, CT radiation dose, advanced processing, and the need for quality assurance in CT. Patient care and preparation, clinical indications, scan protocols, and basic image appearances will be considered for a range of anatomical areas. Professional role of CT radiographer will be linked in with various topics in the module.
