This module will be delivered to BSc Radiography students. This module addresses the fundamentals of digital imaging workflow and technology relevant to diagnostic imaging. In addition to developing a knowledge base in the subject of Digital Information & Healthcare Information and Communication Technology (ICT), each student will gain skill in using an enterprise level RIS/PACS system. The importance of system security in a medical setting, and the impact of digital systems on the patient care pathway will be addressed and practical skills labs covering the entire patient workflow from a diagnostic imaging perspective. Data protection best practice in a clinical setting will also be explored. These activities will be driven through didactic lectures, online learning and lab sessions.

Learning Outcomes:

Outcomes are assessed through the portfolio with preparedness assessed through the quizzes.

Understand the theoretical principles underlying HCIT systems.
Competently undertake the complete workflow of a diagnostic imaging examination.
Consider best practice principles with regard to data protection.
Apply problem solving skills as part of RIS/PACS diagnostic imaging workflow.
