This module continues to build on students' understanding of the technologies under in medical radiography and the physical principles underlying them. It is designed to complement the Practice of Radiography modules in Stages 1 and 2 by promoting understanding of the general radiography, dental and facial bones radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography and DEXA. It also provides an introduction to quality assurance and quality control practices relevant to diagnostic radiography.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this modules students should be able to:

Explain the basic principles of radioactivity, x-rays and light
Explain the basic principles of magnetism and electromagnetism and apply them to imaging equipment, e.g. X-ray generators
Understand the technical principles and equipment used in dental radiography, tomography, fluoroscopy, angiography, mammography and DEXA
Appreciate the value and importance of quality assurance and quality control in the imaging department
Perform or describe a range of quality control tests
