An undergraduate course principally designed for final year Food and Agribusiness Management students.
Topics covered include:
Irish and EU policies and programmes to promote the Information Society;
Current status of and developments in ICT infrastructure;
Definition, description and evaluation of internet services;
Level of adoption of ICTs among Irish farmers and factors associated with this;
Scope, growth and potential for e-business/e-technology in agribusiness;
Use of social media in agricultural and agribusiness development;
Portal and web development;
Legal aspects of e-business trading;
Future developments in ICT and e-business.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students should be able to:

critique current Irish and EU policies to promote the Information Society;
explain the current status of ICT infrastructure and plans for its development;
explain the scale, scope, growth, benefits and potential of ICT;
explain the uptake of ICT among Irish farmers and agribusinesses;
critique current usage and future potential of ICT and e-business in agribusiness;
assess use of social media in agricultural and agribusiness development;
evaluate websites and portals;
participate in web site development;
describe the legal requirements and responsibilities when conducting e-business.
