Academic Year 2023/2024

This module will take place during Autumn, Spring and Summer Trimesters and will comprise 32 live supervised clinical sessions each of 4 hours duration. The module will focus on extending clinical learning and furthering the development of clinical skills in the practice of Systemic Psychotherapy through participation in a live, supervised clinical training team. As in Year 2 students will be given the opportunity to work directly as part of a team with individuals, couples and families referred to the Psychotherapy service.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will: (1) Show a reflexive and ethical engagement with team. (2) Accept accountability within relevant supervising and management structures. (3) Have a capacity to describe their clinical decision-making from a systemic Perspective. (4) Show a recognition of the limits of their professional knowledge and skills. (5) Have a capacity to develop effective therapeutic relationships with a range of clients. (6) Be able to use and adapt appropriately a range of skills and techniques. (7) Show a familiarity with a wide range of presenting issues in the clinical situation. (8) Show a reflective and ethical engagement with their clinical work. (9) Show a capacity to respond to and remain participant in a supervisor/learner relationship.

Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
Clinical Hours Requirements: The requirement for year three is that students must complete their thirty hours of direct clinical work with clients in the Live Supervision module.
These thirty hours are built up over years two and three.
Each live clinical session can be counted as 1.5 hours of the 30 live clinical hours. This takes in account pre and post session supervised discussion.
