PSY20200 Psychology for Everyday Life

This module introduces students to various ways in which psychology can contribute to understanding and improving facets of everyday life. The module critically reviews theory and research and their applications to a variety of life domains. Students are encouraged to develop critical thinking skills in considering the relevance of evidence-based psychology for specific areas of everyday life. Lectures will be delivered by guest speakers, who present material from their own areas of expertise. The specific topics covered vary by year, but examples of previous topics include: psychological wellbeing; child & adolescent mental health; disability & society; group relations; humanitarian emergencies; media & entertainment; law & crime.

*Please note that due to the large class size, this module will be delivered entirely online in 2021/22.*

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate knowledge of important concepts, theories and research that underpin the psychology of everyday life.
2. Identify and critique examples of evidence-based psychology in everyday settings.
3. Reflect on the process of developing practical applications of psychological findings.
