Student Effort Hours:
Approaches to Teaching and Learning:
There will be six two-hour meetings. After the 5th meeting, trainees are invited to
submit their journal entries and their reflections on the process which are to be
uploaded into Brightspace. However, there will be one further closing PPDI
seminar, the 6th meeting, to close off the year from PPDI point of view and this
will therefore not form part of the review process.
The first half of the meetings is allocated to open discussion and “checking-in”
with each member of the group. Following this each student will be assigned to
one of the meetings in which that student will choose a topic from the list below
The student may draw from several options as outlined below the provision being
that the content of the meeting will be self- reflexive and relate to the connection
of ideas between the student’s personal narrative and her professional activity.
The content/ theme could be any of the following:
1. A particular issue that the student has identified as being a challenge or a
question in her/his personal relationships and relationships at work, or in her/his
therapy work.
2. A development of the student’s personal genogram whereby the student will
re- present her/his genogram or part of it that particularly interests her/him or has
changed since the year one presentation. The student may for example choose
to look specifically at her/his sibling relationships.
3. An aspect of the SOCIAL GRAACES, which is of relevance to her/him in their
work and /or personal life at this moment.
4. A comparison of work and personal narratives as a structured exercise. This
would be facilitated by the PPDI Facilitator.
5. The professional Genogram. In this exercise the students draw on the key
professional mentors’ educators and supervisors who have influenced their
professional development up to now. More details will be available in the
Brightspace module on PPDI.
The overall structure of the 2-hour meetings should allow for some supportive
discussion of general issues for students as well as the specific presentations.
Presentations should allow time for group reflection of the themes or questions
presented
