Curricular information is subject to change.

This module forms part of the 200 retrospective hours required for registration which are completed over Years 3 & 4. 65 clinical hours are required for year 3, the remaining 135 hours are completed in Year 4. The purpose relates to the fact that : Students will be expected to bring material from their work with clients for consultation and supervision on a retrospective basis. The content relates to : Video and audio recordings of students’ clinical work will be an important aspect of learning in this module (We understand that this may not be possible because of FOI but we encourage students to try). It is essential that all learners have a suitable work placement to complete their work with clients and will be allocated both groups and individual Clinical Supervisor. The supervision provided will be for the purposes of learning as part of the course and does not replace the need for line management supervision or case management in the work placement. The format of the module will require each student to work independently with clients for 65 hours and to take part in 16 hours* of retrospective supervision. One hour of therapy with a client = 1 logged hour of the 200 hours retro requirement. *Please note 12 hours of this are for individual retro supervision and the remaining four hours are group supervision

About this Module

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this module students will show: (1) A developing ability for independent clinical practice with clients and the variety of systems to which they belong. (2) A developing ability for self-reflexive practice in the context of their own professional settings. (3) A developing ability for effective use of the resources available within a specific supervisory relationship.
The learning outcomes are helped by referring to the Likert Scale for Independent practice provided to each students - This Likert scale should be read and used in conjunction to the Likert scale used in Live supervision.

Indicative Module Content:

Purpose of Retro Supervision: This Supervision is an integral part of the Modules on Retrospective Supervision in Year 3 and 4 of the Masters in Systemic Psychotherapy. The programme requires students to work directly with clients outside of the team training context and to bring this work for consultation and supervision on a retrospective basis to their Individual Clinical Supervisor and to the group supervision process. Video and audio recordings of students’ clinical work is an important aspect of student learning in this module. (We understand that this may not be possible because of data protection but we encourage you to try).
In order to ensure that the learning outcomes of met, 80% of student hours (160 hours) should be couple or family sessions and 20% (40 hours) with individuals. Please note with respect to consultations/ meetings if this is a significant systemic consultation in which you provide input as a systemic therapist - it can be nominated as a session.
If a therapist works with an individual and other people are invited in as a resource, this can be considered as part of the 80% proportion.
