Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this module students will:
● Be able to demonstrate and articulate their application of systemic ideas
in clinical practice and show an ability to demonstrate an ethical and reflexive
engagement with their work.
● Further develop their ability to integrate theory, practice, and research
through learning from the workshop presentation of experienced practitioners.
Indicative Module Content:
While this is a stand-alone module, integration is a central part of clinical work, research, ethics, reflexivity and theoretical development. It is important to consider the interrelationship between theory / practice / ethics / positioning and
reflexivity etc., as this is core to integration. The focus of integration is to give each student (over the course of the
semester) an opportunity to present their work and to consider key relational and systemic issues connected to an aspect of a case. The challenge is:
● To select a piece of video and be able to describe why this piece was
picked.
● To synthesise clinical work in such a way that each student gains
experience in presenting a very brief overview of a case.
● To decide how best to use the genogram as a clinical tool in the case.
● To pick an aspect / moment of the work that the student wishes to
highlight.
● To identify some questions related to the case and the ‘wonderings’ the
student may have.
● To see the group / facilitator as a resource that may be able to assist
learning and development.
While the focus is on discussing clinical work, the class is not designed to either
provide case management or supervision of the case. This remains the
responsibility of the clinical supervisor.
