PSCO40200 Supervision Clin Practice 3

Academic Year 2023/2024

The supervision of ongoing clinical practice takes place in two forms: individual and small group. Individual supervision occurs weekly over a minimum 30 weeks. Small group supervision occurs fortnightly. itogether the two modes of supervision provide a highly focused training in the technique and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. In small group supervision Students present their case material fortnightly in rotation for peer and tutor supervision. Within this intimate group context, students are encouraged, directed and supported in sustaining therapeutic work - ideally carried over from the first two years - with the same patient or group of patients. The evolving complexity of ethical and theoretical questions around the direction of the treatment as these relate to interpretation, transference etc are privileged, with key Freudian and Lacanian texts acting as the theoretical prism through which clinical situations are viewed.
This is a must-pass module for the programme. In other words, a student cannot complete the MSc without passing this module regardless of grades across all other modules.
