Curricular information is subject to change.

This module builds on the foundations provided in the level 1 Portuguese language modules. Students will enhance their listening, speaking, writing and reading skills by being exposed to different types of texts and different registers. The module will also expand and reinforce students' grammatical knowledge of Portuguese, with a particular focus on more advanced grammatical structures and categories, which students will apply to written and oral tasks.

This module is orientated for academically trained learners who are willing to learn a foreign language and acquire intermediate command of the Portuguese language. This module's main objectives are: a) to develop and consolidate essential grammatical structures in order to be able to communicate confidently in Portuguese through a range of written, oral, and comprehension exercises and b) to improve listening and reading comprehension as well as oral skills, emphasising socio-cultural aspects of the Portuguese-speaking world.

It aims to provide the communication competencies for Level B1, taking as reference the descriptors of the Common European Framework and students should be progressing towards level B2.
It is a core module for students pursuing Portuguese to degree level but is also suitable as an elective for students of other subjects who reached the equivalent standard of Portuguese (CEFR level A2).

Key functions and grammar points:
1) Narration of short stories in the past and you will learn how to use and contrast past tenses in Portuguese: past perfect and imperfect (simple and compound).
2) Express emotional reactions to and opinions about authentic work, life, and leisure situations.
3) Transmit dialogues, statements and requests of other people in the past through the use of audiovisual elements (e.g. films, tv series, podcasts).
