Learning Outcomes:
On satisfactory completion of this module, according to the descriptors of CEFR students should be able to:
1) Introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions about concrete subjects of daily life, using simple phrases and vocabulary
2) Carry out basic everyday tasks like ordering a meal or asking for directions
3) Understand simple oral and written texts
4) write simple phrases and short texts
5) Demonstrate a sound grasp of the basic grammatical structures and sentence patterns of the Portuguese language
6) Give short oral presentations in Portuguese on a defined topic to a small group of listeners and engage in group discussion of the topic presented.
Indicative Module Content:
Whilst the content may vary from year to year, it is envisioned that you will work through a course book, covering all essential points of grammar, and consolidating skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Grammatical structures as well as vocabulary will be introduced in context. You will have the opportunity to practice language skills in class and interactively set homework.
There will be an opportunity to explore the main differences between the two standardised varieties of Portuguese (Brazilian and European Portuguese).
